2011 Super Bowl sets viewership record

For the second consecutive year, the NFL Super Bowl has set a record for US television viewing audience size.

Nielsen said Monday that nearly 111 million people watched the Green Bay Packers defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers. This mark beats the 106.5 million who watched the 2010 Super Bowl.

The series finale of MASH had previously held the title for the most popular show in the US for 27 years. It is now 3rd, behind the 2 most recent Super Bowls.

The most-watched single play of the game was Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s final incomplete pass late in the game, according to data from Tivo.

2011 Super Bowl – Super Bowl XLV

Super Bowl XLV was the 45th annual Super Bowl, the annual event that decides the National Football League (NFL) championship.

Super Bowl XLV was played between the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Pittsburgh Steelers and the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Green Bay Packers.

The game was held at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on February 6, 2011. The Packers defeated the Steelers with a score of 31 to 25.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 24 passes for three touchdowns, and as a resut, was named Super Bowl MVP.

Going into the 2011 Super Bowl, the Steelers held a record with 6 Super Bowl wins. The Green Bay Packers had won the Super Bowl three times, in addition to holding the record of twelve overall NFL titles.

This game marked the eighth visit to the Super Bowl for the Steelers of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the fifth appearance for the Packers of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
